Spain, as a country, needs to be thought of as the composite of its regions – Basque, Catalonia, Valencia, Castile, and Galicia. Each portion deserves its own detailed map, but travellers also wish a detailed country map, showing everything. This map divides Spain into eastern and western portions, with the east of the country, including the Balearic Islands, on side 1. This covers from the French border south to Granada and west to Madrid, showing motorways, well-maintained national highways, and all the train routes that carry passengers. Side 2 covers the west of Spain from Madrid to the Portuguese border and from the top to the bottom, including Gibraltar, which isn’t part of Spain.
